The work is executed in mixed media: charcoal and oil,
a technique characteristic of the artist’s recent works. Liza turns to charcoal as a symbol of loss, the ephemerality of memory, destruction and fragility, organicity. In her works, she reflects on loss — on things dear to us but irretrievably gone.

Charcoal is a soft and malleable material, in working with which chance becomes part of the process. Like memory itself, it lives its own life, disappearing at the very moment when it seems to have been captured.
